Yea Carol! And thanks Daryl for the tip. I wonder if the greyhound on our street would be a good choice for cat catching. Perhaps not.

Also, welcome to the Frappr universe. I felt peer-pressured into getting one as well. You can xpect a Frappr friend request from me pretty soon, good buddy.

I just wanted to congratulate all Calgarians on the Bronze medal for Curling won by Shannon Kleibrink's Calgary rink.

Their coach's name is Daryl, by the way, but he pronounces it "darl"

What's up with that?

Good show, and I agree with you about the junk food tax. A colleague of mine suggests that perhaps we should just tax cooking oil heavily and that would take care of most of the issue.

As for footprints - well according to this site, We need 2.7 earths if we're all going to have my lifestyle. I did manage to live in a 1.0 earth lifestyle but that was in a yurt in the woods with no electricity or running water. We are definitely overusing our resources.

Great show as always!

Wow, you step away from the blog to go to work and people start posting, holy crap.

Aj thanx on behalf of our dancers, er curlers.

Clinton, thankyou, I knew you'd be here at 49

Todd, freaking Tyrtle, as I live and breath. Taxing cooking oils would help a lot, but what about the new bio-diesels they will suffer. That footprint site freaks me out. I know that we are consuming way more than we have. Apparently, and I heard this on a podcast so it must be true, last saturday the earth hit something like 6.5 billion, but they have calculated that we can only support 5 billion. ( I might be off on the numbers by a few dozen) Now, is the only hope a Culling?

I registered at 3.9 earths.

Good point about biodiesel. But sadly biodiesel is only an interim solution. After all, if we made enough biodiesel to keep our current demands met we'd have little place to grow food. (Watch The End of Suburbia (video link) for more details on that one.

But - how about instead of a tax, purchasers pay a "disposal deposit" up front that is refunded by approved veg. oil processing centres. You and I and our deep fried snickers bars are not approved processing centres but a biodiesel plant is.

And actually, that "disposal deposit" idea is probably a good idea. Let's put it on everything. When you buy, for instance, a television, there should be a surcharge on it for the disposal. Companies who built TVs to be dismantled and have their parts recycled would be able to accept returns and refund deposits to be used on the next purchase. It reminds me of a friend who lived in Africa and there you could not buy a bottle of pop without giving them a bottle or drinking it there...

Okay - I've rambled enough. Time to actually eat lunch.

Deposits are a great idea, but I think what we are proving here is that there are no easy answers.

Thanx Bruce. Heard your promo on I think Z&Z, and went and got it off the pickle. It is excellent I can't wait to play it. I will resist putting it in the Transphobic show.

I am glad you did mind me using you as and example. I didn't really plan it it just got away from me.

congrats on the new Ipod woo hoo.

Hi Daryl,

Finally catching up on the poddog show. I'm moved and the Internet is all hooked up! So, I'm trying to catch up on my favourite podcasts. Congrats on reaching 49! I noticed the 49a and b, can't wait to listen.

I also wanted to say thanks for the kind words about Dismay. Did you hear yourself on Episode 8?

I agree 100% with the junkfood tax.

Another great show and looking forward to episode 50!
